High Chief Oscar Angus, Okorie

High Chief Oscar Angus Okorie hails from Umuagwunafo Ohohia Obi Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local government Area of Imo State.
He had his primary, secondary and tertiary education like most of his mates, where he obtained his degree in Agriculture Engineering, Diploma in community development and Diploma in Microfinance from Gremen school of Microfinance Banglandesh.
As a young man with a vision to turn around every situation for better and with his background and passion in agriculture and its related activities, He went on to start up his carrier in rural development with special interest in Community development (Women & Youths), manpower/skills acquisition trainings alongside management consultancy. His experience over the first few years of his carrier made him sought for an independent platform to actualise his mission in rural development (with Emphasis on Women & Youths).
This lead to the establishment of Community Development and Empowerment centre (CODEC) in 2003 as a non-governmental development organisation (NGDO) with a vision to sustainably improve the living conditions of rural dwellers especially Women and Youths. In 2010, CODEC gave birth to Rural Enterprises Assistance Project – IMO State (REAP-IMO) (The Micro-finance arm) to train and empower women & youths on Entrepreneurial development across the 27 LGA’s of Imo State.
CODEC is affiliated to renowned developmental agencies/organisations in Nigeria and the United Kingdom, with whom she collaborates in the execution of her projects and programmes. Notable amongst them are the Central Bank of Nigeria, The Association of Non-Bank Microfinance institution of Nigeria, The Rural finance Institution of Nigeria, The coalition of Eastern NGO’s, The National Poverty Eradication programme, Sustainable Millennium Development Goals Project etc.
In his line of duty, High Chief Oscar Angus Okorie has served in the following capacities:
2011 – 2015:  Technical assistant to the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on the MDG’s State House Abuja in charge of IMO & Ebonyi states Conditional Cash Transfer programme.
2007 – Till date: Board Member/Coordinator representing South-East in Association of Non-Bank microfinance institutions of Nigeria (A body set-up by the Central Bank of Nigeria to regulate the activities of microfinance institutions in Nigeria).
2015 – Till date: Board member, Rural Outreach Coordinating Committee (ROCC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
At the community level, High Chief Oscar Angus Okorie, who is widely known for his roles in developmental programmes/projects, has empowered over forty (40) micro-entrepreneurial women/Youths across the four (4) villages of Ohohia Mbieri. He also attracted the renovation/equipping of the Ohohia Primary Health care Centre under the MDG programme.
High Chief Oscar is a recipient of several awards and chieftaincy titles amongst which includes:
1.    United Nations Peace Ambassador (UN-POLAC)
2.    Best Non-Bank Micro-Finance Institution in Nigeria (CODEC) by CBN/IFAD/RUFIN
3.    Ohamadike I of Oguta Imo State.
4.    Ekwueme I of Obi Mbieri, Imo State.
5.    Chinemeze I of Nkalagu, Ebonyi State.
6.    Ugwumba I of Okigwe, Imo State,


In summary, High Chief Oscar Angus Okorie is a well known Agriculturist, Development Expert, Human Rights Activist, Policy Analyst and a renowned Microfinance practitioner.

He remains a role model, a beacon of hope, a scion of truth, an emblem of integrity and an incontrovertible guardian of light to Nigerian youths, burning with a passion to see Nigerian youths attain their full potential

High Chief Oscar Angus Okorie is happily married to Chief Mrs Ijeoma .A. Okorie (Nee Ohabuenyi) and blessed with three handsome young men and a beautiful lady.
